The Triennial Federation elections for Representatives to the Joint Branch Board are due to be held and will be for an electoral term that ends on 31st December 2013.

Due to the Force restructure officers may stand for a Constituency if they know they will be in that Constituency following the restructure.

Both male and female officers may stand for election to represent the following constituencies:

Both male and female officers must be proposed and seconded by a male or female officer of that rank within their electoral constituency.

*Reserved Seat positions are for female officers only in the three ranks.  A Female officer must be proposed and seconded for the Reserve Seat position by either a male or female officer of that rank throughout the Force.

Nominations should be received at the Federation Office, 6A Kingscroft Road, Hucclecote by 0900 am MONDAY 13th DECEMBER 2010.

Please do not rely on the internal post to send your nomination form, either use Royal Mail or deliver by hand.  All nominations received will be acknowledged by email

In the event of more nominations being received than there are posts then elections will be held.

Ballot papers will be sent to home addresses – the closing date for voting will be 10th January 2011.

In order to assist officers who may be interested in standing a role definition and nomination form is attached.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY OF A FEDERATION REPRESENTATIVE

To effectively represent the electorate a representative will have to:

  • Recognise that on some issues they, as an individual, do not possess the required expertise, and to liaise with the Branch Board officers for assistance.
  • Maintain close liaison with the other representatives.
  • Liaise closely with the Joint Branch Board Secretary.
  • Develop a close working relationship with local managers.
  • Attend all meetings that require the presence of a Police Federation Representative.
  • Advise members on matters concerning Police Regulations, the Grievance
  • Procedure, CICA claims, DSS claims, initial action on discipline matters, and on any other matters which require action.
  • Ensure close monitoring and contact with members who are suspended, or off duty through illness or injury, and to keep the Joint Branch Board Secretary informed of their progress as necessary.
  • Undertake to develop knowledge of Police Regulations, Police Discipline Regulations and other legislation to ensure advice given to members is correct.
  • Attend all Separate, Joint Branch Board and sub-committee meetings and participate
  • on behalf of their members.
  • Read and digest all documents received from Separate and Joint Branch Board Secretaries, prior to attending meetings.
  • Reply promptly to all correspondence.
  • Attend various Police Federation courses as and when nominated by the Joint Branch Board.
  • Recognise and identify those people who have influence within the working environment and endeavour to develop a working relationship with those individuals.
